3 Reasons to Detox Your Home

3 Reasons to Detox Your Home
September is just about over, which means we’re already well into the swing of spring 🌻

And usually, with the onset of spring, we’re hit with an onslaught of reasons why it’s time to spring clean our homes. This is such a fabulous idea! Or it would be, except that so many of the mainstream cleaning products around contain toxic chemicals. So, really, while we’re cleaning our house, it’s quite possible that we’re also inadvertently harming our health.

So instead of a spring clean this year, why not go for detox instead?

Did you know that the air quality of our indoor environment can be around 2.5 times more toxic than outside? 😯 And considering the amount of time we spend indoors, I’d like to think we all want our homes and work environments to be as healthy as possible.

When we think of a conventional detox, we’re aiming to cleanse and eliminate toxins from our body, in order to bring it back into balance and improve our wellbeing.

So, here’s 3 reasons to apply these same principles to our home.

πŸ§ͺ Endocrine disruptors – Our endocrine system is one of the systems in our body (think nervous systems, digestive system etc.). It’s the system responsible for making hormones. A lot of our everyday products like household cleaners, personal care products and the like, contain chemicals which are known to be endocrine disruptors. That is, they mess around with our hormones and disrupt their normal processes and functionality.

🧴The cumulative effect – while you’ll find a lot of organisations state that these chemicals are only used in their products at the “safe” level (what-ever that means), this statement is used in the context of just that one product, for just a specific amount. In our homes, we use multiple products, all of the time and the chemicals in these products build and accumulate to create an environment that far exceeds these “safe” levels.

πŸ˜ƒ You’ll begin to feel better – the accumulation of chemicals in and around your body contribute to something we call “toxic load”. This is the amount of toxins your body has to deal with before it can begin functioning effectively. Detoxing your home means that you are more in control of the toxins entering your body, your hormones will get a rest and begin to function more effectively and you’ll start to reap those health rewards.

Detoxing your home doesn't have to be hard. In fact, getting started is super simple.
